Tim Wendelboe

World-renowned micro-roastery in Grünerløkka

The Story

Tim Wendelboe is more than a café — it's a philosophy. Named after Norway's most famous barista and 2004 World Barista Champion, this tiny micro-roastery in the heart of Oslo's Grünerløkka neighbourhood has become a global pilgrimage site for anyone serious about coffee.

The space is intentionally minimal: a small counter, a few seats, and the roaster visible in the back. There's no Wi-Fi, no elaborate food menu, no distractions. Everything is designed to put the focus squarely on the coffee — its origin, its process, and its flavour.

Every bean served here is directly traded from farms that Tim and his team have personally visited. The roasting philosophy is light and precise, designed to highlight the unique terroir of each origin. Whether you order an espresso or an AeroPress, you're tasting the result of an unbroken chain of care from seed to cup.

What to Order

  • Single-origin espresso — ask for today's featured farm
  • AeroPress — the perfect way to taste their light roast profiles
  • Espresso flight — compare two or three origins side by side
  • A bag of freshly roasted beans to take home

The Experience

Visiting Tim Wendelboe is an education. The baristas are among the most knowledgeable in the world, and they're genuinely passionate about sharing what they know. Don't be shy about asking questions — they'll happily explain the difference between a washed Ethiopian and a natural Colombian, or why their roast profile brings out notes of bergamot and stone fruit.

While it's not a traditional waterfront café, Tim Wendelboe represents the very pinnacle of Norwegian coffee culture — the craft and precision that has made Norway a global coffee leader. The Grünerløkka neighbourhood itself is vibrant and walkable, with the Akerselva river nearby offering pleasant waterside strolls.
